Hello Sioux Falls Swim League Families,

Thanks to everyone who participated in our meet on Saturday! We hope your swimmers enjoyed the meet and learned a little bit about competitive swimming. Each League meet will be opportunities for swimmers to grow in their events, and take on new challenges. We will have similar event line ups, but will be encouraging swimmers in different events.

Note for Tuesday’s practice 9/22-

We will be handing out barcode tags for your swimmers to enter Midco Aquatic Center on our practice days. These barcode tags do not allow entry into Midco Aquatic Center outside of our practice times, and swimmers are not allowed to use other areas of the facility with this barcode. Please keep track of these tags, any replacements are $5 and done through the Midco Aquatic Center staff (and not through SFST).

Lastly, below is information about our competitive team program for our Winter season. Lots of information so please read and if you have any questions reach out.

Winter Competitive Season

As we progress into our fall season, we are excited to offer a Winter Competitive Season for swimmers ready to continue developing their skills and gaining competitive experience!

Winter Practice Schedule

We will keep the same practice times on Tuesdays and Thursdays:

• Red 1 (9&Under): 5:45–6:30 PM
• Red 1 (9&Over): 6:45–7:30 PM
• White 1 (11&Over): 5:45-6:45 PM (Mondays through Thursdays)

Your swimmers practice time will most likely stay at their same time. Some movement may happen and will be communicated next week.

Monthly Dues and USA Swimming Membership

Red 1 monthly dues are $85 for each month of participation, and we encourage your swimmer to participate in our Red 1 group from November to the end of February. White 1 Dues are $105 per month. 

Along with our monthly dues, each Red 1 and White 1 swimmer will need a current USA Swimming membership. The cost is $65, and covers your USA swimming membership for the year.

Lastly, each competition (meet) will be an additional cost and will be dependent on the event. The average cost of meets in South Dakota range between $30-$50 each meet. Meets are optional and your swimmer does not have to participate in meets to be in our White and Red 1 group. All SFST home meets and 2 away meets are encouraged for our White and Red 1 group.

Meets

Our first available USA Swimming meet for League participants will be the Yankton Swim Team meet on November 14th. The current registration deadline is October 28th, and will coordinate how to register for this event when you sign up for our competitive groups.

Other meets we will encourage; December Home Meet - TBD, January Home Meet 1/22-1/24, Home Meet 2/5, Rising Stars at Mitchell 2/19-2/21, and State Meet at Watertown 2/26-2/28.

Commitment Deadline

Families will need to commit to the Winter Competitive Season by October 27. This will allow us to finalize groups, staffing, and our meet schedule for the season.

We are excited to continue building on the progress our swimmers have made and provide them with another opportunity to develop as swimmers and competitors this winter!

Reminder: Your swimmer does not need to participate in our Winter Season to continue growing in swimming.

Our Winter Season is an opportunity for swimmers who are ready to try our competitive swim team and experience the commitment and environment of competitive swimming. For swimmers who prefer a more recreational approach, our Spring Recreational League will provide continued skill development in the water, with opportunities to participate in competitions as well. Spring League will start up around March 1st.
